Objectives

Reflecting on the multicultural project, I see that we accomplished most of the initial objectives.  Students were successful in comparing and contrasting the ideas within the literary texts we read.  They were also successful in creating responses to literary texts through a variety of methods.  The students did a great job using grammatical conventions of written Standard American English.  More editing and revising is needed on some pieces, but we simply ran out of time.  While the documentation isn’t necessarily obvious on the website, students did reference lists.  This is one of the revisions that will need to be done in the future to finish the project.  Students used a variety of print and electronic materials.  I was very happy to see the wide selection of materials they found on the authors they were researching.

To Do

We still need to work on completion of the websites to share their projects with a wider audience.  Because many of my students do not have internet at home (and some don’t even have computers), most of the work had to be done at school during class time.  Frequently we had trouble getting enough working computers.  Publishing their findings on a webpage has been very difficult for some students and most did not finish.

Next Time

Next time I will probably spend more time demonstrating how to design the webpage.  I assumed that my students knew how to do this because they had done it last year.  However, most did not.  A few students were willing to help others and demonstrate for them and made more time for me to get around to more students. However, as shown in some of the student reflections, several were frustrated by the work and wanted and needed more help.  I might also talk about a few basic rules of layout to make their WebPages more professional and creative.
