After a year at Mid-Carolina, I feel like part of the family.  It amazes me how quickly I have grown to love my work here, and I am grateful to have found a second professional home.  This school year we moved from our old site to a brand new, fully-equipped building off Cy Schumpert Road.  Though I miss my little mobile unit out back at the old school, I've enjoyed patrolling the halls, chatting with colleagues between classes, and learning to use my new SmartBoard.  The new building is a fabulous testament to our community's support of schools in Newberry County.

Mid-Carolina High School was established in 1958 to serve and consolidate the small, rural communities of Prosperity, Pomaria, and Little Mountain, South Carolina.  It is one of three high schools in Newberry County, and has been very successful, winning Palmetto Gold Awards from 2001 to 2005.  Mid-Carolina motto is "A Proud Past, A Promising Future."  Its student body of approximately 700 students is ethically and socio-economically diverse, reflecting the changing and growing nature of the surrounding community.  Student interests range from hunting and fishing to punk rock to theater and the arts, from AP English to Welding.  MCHS is lucky to work with one the finest career centers in South Carolina, offering state of the art instruction and an array of professional certifications in areas like Health Science Technology, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Cosmetology, HVAC Technology, Business, and CAD.

Sports reign supreme at Mid-Carolina and everyone turns out to cheer on the Rebels on Friday nights.  So many folks come out that you have to show up early for the football games or you'll end up parking way down off the side of Highway 76.  Prosperity is still the land of the pickup truck as Blake, Michael, and Ben (from left to right) demonstrate in this picture.
